How do I enable Developer Mode on Windows?
Note that this is only required if you are building the HouzLinc package yourself or downloaded it from the "Download" page and want to sideload it. To enable Developer Mode on Windows 10/11:
- Open Settings (Windows + I)
- Navigate to Update & Security > For developers
- Turn on "Developer Mode"
- Confirm the dialog that appears
- Restart your computer if prompted
Why can't I install the MSIX package?
Currently, the downloaded MSIX package it not signed. If you're having trouble installing the MSIX package, make sure that:
- Developer Mode is enabled
- You're installing via PowerShell as Administrator
- Your Windows version is 1909 or later
Android installation is blocked by security settings
To install APK files on Android:
- Go to Settings > Security & privacy
- Find "Security & privacy > More security & privacy > Installation sources
- Enable installation from your browser
- Try the installation again
How do I connect to my Insteon Hub?
To connect HouzLinc to your Insteon Hub:
- Note the MAC address, port, username and password displayed on your Hub
- Ensure your device is on the same network as the Hub
- Launch HouzLinc and go to Settings
- Enter your Hub MAC address, port, username and password
- Click the "Find Hub" button
- On Android or if this does not work on Windows, obtain your hub IP address from your local network management portal or app, enter it and try "Find Hub" again
Can I use OneDrive to store my configuration?
Yes! HouzLinc supports OneDrive integration:
- When launching HouzLinc, select "Open or create the house configuration on your OneDrive"
- Sign in with your Microsoft account
- HouzLinc will create a house configuration file in Apps/HouzLinc
- Multiple instances can share the same file
HouzLinc can't find my Insteon Hub
If HouzLinc can't connect to your Hub:
- Verify your Hub is powered on and connected to your network
- Using your network management portal or app, try obtaining the Hub's IP address
- Try accessing the Hub's web interface in a browser at http://IP:PORT (e.g., http://192.168.0.56:25105).
- Ensure firewall isn't blocking the connection
- Try restarting both HouzLinc and your Hub
App crashes or becomes unresponsive
If HouzLinc becomes unstable:
- Restart the application
- Check available system memory
- Report the issue on GitHub with details
- Consider building from the latest source
Which Insteon devices are supported?
HouzLinc supports:
- Insteon Engine v2 (i2) devices
- SwitchLinc, OutletLinc, In-LineLinc
- KeypadLinc (6 and 8 button versions)
- RemoteLinc (Mini-Remote)
- I/OLinc modules
Note: i1 devices have limited support
Can I manage schedules with HouzLinc?
Schedule management is not currently supported due to lack of public documentation from Insteon. This feature may be added if Insteon provides the necessary protocol details.
How many devices can HouzLinc handle?
HouzLinc has been tested with networks containing:
- Over 100 Insteon devices
- 100+ scenes
- Complex All-Link configurations
Performance depends on your device specifications and network quality.
